Book Review: Sweet Thing

"Love equals a morbid and relentless fear of losing the other person. It’s a freak-accident fear, a piece of space junk falling from the sky and obliterating him, leaving nothing but his smoking boots. It’s the unfortunate-organ-defect fear—suddenly, on his thirtieth birthday, the little crack in his heart that’s been there since birth will rear its ugly head and take him in his sleep while he’s spooning you. It’s the only way to know you’re really in love, when you ask the question would it be harder to watch him die, or to know he’ll watch me die? Is there more mercy in being the one who does the watching or in being the one who does the dying? It’s when you realize what mercy-killing actually means, it’s when you actually care to the point of tormenting worry. It’s not roses and white horses, it’s fucking brutal and it can send a person running for the hills. To love is brave and Will was the bravest person I knew."

Mia moves to New York City after her father unexpectedly dies. On the plane there Mia meets a guy named Will. Will and Mia have a roller coaster relationship after Mia agrees to Will becoming her new roommate. Both Mia and Will love music. Mia has a lot to figure out, she thinks she knows what she wants but doesn't know what she needs. Will is in a band, doesn't take life or anything too seriously but he loves Mia.

Sweet Thing was a cute story. I sort of expected a little deeper soul shattering read then it was. That preconception is really the only reason I gave it 4.5 stars.

I loved the music aspect and the way it was written as well. Sometimes when books that are written around virtuosic characters there tends to be to much focus on the actual music. This story however was different. It's hard to explain but I felt that music was something for Will and Mia to share together instead of specifically using it to convey their own feelings for each other, which I liked.

Will was a special character. He was really fun and real. I though he was absolutely hilarious and he was just an all around good guy. He will be added to my book boyfriends list.

Mia and Will are perfect for each other and the ending of the story was great. Again it wasn't an earth shattering novel but like the title says it was a Sweet Thing. ( Cheesy i know but that is exactly how it is!)

I recommend this book to those who like guys in bands, best friends/roommates falling in love, and sweet stories.
