"In the dull light of the city, I could only make the few bright stars. Time passed too slow and too fast because I longed for him and was entirely terrified of what hid inside him at the same time."
Aly and Jared grew up together. Jared was Aly's brother's best friend and ever since she could remember she has been in love with him. After an accident happens, Aly thought she would Jared again. One night Aly comes home to her apartment that she shares with her brother to find the boy that she loved sleeping on the couch. Aly is Jared's trigger, but he can't stay away from her. Jared doesn't know what compelled him to go back to his hometown but he finds himself battling his demons.
This book was an impulse buy for me when I went to the bookstore this weekend and it was totally worth it! I have read plenty of books about falling in love with the brother's best friend but this one was probably the most unique. It was an emotional roller coaster of feelings for me and the characters.
The writing was fantastic. I liked the structure and even though I love flashbacks, I thought it was effective for the author to minimize her use of telling the story from that perspective (but I loved it when she did). I am speechless on how great A.L. Jackson did capturing the emotion and pain in the characters. I really enjoyed the characters as well. Jared might be my new book boyfriend!
I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I recommend this book to everybody, and especially if you like new adult, stories about the brother's best friend and romance!
