“I see it, Jack. Your muse is back. The thing that gave you passion, tormented you, and haunted you is back. You're reeling in ecstasy and dread. It's something you want, but can't ever have. And the one that brings the pain is pure, white as snow... and standing in front of you.”
Abby returns to her hometown after leaving for sabbatical from the
church she worked at. Now with no money, no place to live, and college
loans to pay Abby come home to live with Kate, her old best friend from
high school. To pay off her loans and survive a year away from her
church Abby interviews for a job with the successful Jonathan Gray. Only
Jonathan Gray is actually Jack Gray, the boy who she once thought was
her soul-mate. After offering her a job to be his assistant, they end up
rekindling their friendship, but that connection between them is still
there.
Many people, actually, didn’t like this book, but the reviews on
this book didn’t scare me away. I didn’t have as big of a problem with
this book as many people did.
There were a few things I wasn’t crazy about though. I didn’t like
the brush off of Abby’s parents. That could have been a bigger issue and
could have been explained better. I also didn’t like the sudden “Marry
Me”. I got that they loved each other but I thought it was irrational. I
also found that the beginning was way too slow and the ending was way
too fast.
I liked the characters a lot, the idea of them being soul mates and I
really liked the artistic value that came from the book as well.
Sadly I didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d liked too, and I will not be
reading the second book. On the other hand I really like this author and
enjoyed her book Damaged and have her Arrangement series on my
to-be-read list.
